The role

We are looking for a Social Media Manager / Content Creator to drive our organic content and social media presence forward on a permanent full-time contract, with a strong focus on video-first platforms.

The role sits within Smarter Web, a fast-growing UK-listed company, and your primary focus will be supporting Smarter Web itself. From time to time you will also support the group's marketing efforts within its operating subsidiaries — Smarter Web Operations, our established web and digital business, and Squarebird, our creative web and digital marketing agency — a rare opportunity to work across a listed parent company and two specialist digital businesses.

You will report directly to Jon Bird, Head of Marketing at Smarter Web and a founder of Squarebird, working closely with him and the wider team on a broad range of marketing initiatives across the group.

Key responsibilities

  • Working with the Head of Marketing to help set social media strategy, then taking ownership of the outputs of the social media plan — turning strategy into a rolling content calendar and seeing it through to publication
  • Planning, filming, and editing high volume, high quality short-form video content, native to each platform rather than repurposed one-size-fits-all
  • Clipping and repackaging podcast appearances, media hits, and events into scroll-stopping short-form video
  • Managing our media library — organising, cataloguing and maintaining raw and edited footage, photography and brand assets so content is easy to find, reuse and repurpose
  • Providing input into the development of our podcast and livestream productions, including format, content planning and production quality
  • Shooting iPhone-level social media photography and videography at events and on location
  • Managing paid social advertising and/or liaising with Squarebird (our internal marketing agency) to plan, execute and optimise paid campaigns
  • Monitoring and reporting on social media and paid campaign performance, tracking output against the agreed plan and KPIs
  • Monitoring social channels daily, including replying to and liking comments, spotting reactive opportunities, and flagging anything sensitive
  • Providing flexible, out-of-hours coverage where needed — this will include occasional early morning (c. 7am) support around company announcements, and light-touch weekend monitoring (typically Saturday mornings), with time off in lieu or flexible working (e.g. Friday afternoons) offered in return
  • Assisting with the management of marketing databases
  • Scheduling podcast appearances and associated marketing activity
  • Using on-brand creative assets and maintaining a consistently high standard of design across all output
  • Adhering to brand styles and brand guidelines across everything we publish
  • Identifying platform trends, formats, and audio/creative opportunities that benefit our content

Essential skills

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in organic social content, particularly short-form video — YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels
  • Strong all-round social media skills across X, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok
  • Comfortable contributing to strategy discussions while taking full ownership of execution and delivery
  • Excellent written English and communication skills
  • Highly organised, with experience of content planning, project management and asset management
  • Confident working with external agencies and senior people
  • A great eye for design, pacing, and visual storytelling

Experience & knowledge

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in social media, content creation or a related field, with a portfolio or examples of organic video work
  • Video shooting and editing, ideally with experience across Canva, CapCut, Premiere Pro, or similar
  • Experience organising and maintaining a media library or digital asset management system
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, podcast or livestream production
  • iPhone-level social media photography and videography
  • Skilled user of Canva and Photoshop (other Adobe software a bonus)
  • Experience managing or liaising on paid social campaigns, either hands-on or via an agency
  • Experience using a brand, and adhering to brand styles and guidelines
  • Experience managing content calendars and publishing schedules across multiple platforms
  • Comfortable using an Apple MacBook desirable
  • An interest in or understanding of the financial markets and listed companies desirable, but not essential

Qualifications

  • A degree in Marketing, Media, Communications or similar is desirable.

Why join?

  • 25 days' holiday, plus bank holidays
  • Up to 20% salary bonus
  • Provision of a laptop / Apple MacBook
  • Great progression opportunities
  • Regular social events
  • Company pension
  • Remote working (mostly)
  • Genuine flexibility around working hours to balance early morning and weekend coverage

Location & working pattern

Smarter Web works remotely as a company, so this role is primarily remote. There will be occasional hybrid working — especially at the beginning and during onboarding — sometimes on site at the Squarebird agency (High Street, Nailsea). Occasional travel to events and meetings is also part of the role.

Given the nature of social media, some flexibility outside of standard hours will be required — including occasional early starts (c. 7am) around company announcements, and light monitoring on Saturday mornings or reactively out of hours. In return, we offer genuine flexibility elsewhere, such as Friday afternoons off or a TOIL arrangement.

This is a great progression opportunity in one of the UK's most exciting companies.
